A roll down shutter lives in a housing above the opening. Up,
you see a box and nothing else — and on new construction, or on a re-stucco, the box can be
recessed so you do not really see that either. Down, it seals the opening completely.

The bigger slat is not the stronger one — the 63mm is the wider profile, but the double
wall on the 55mm is where the load capacity comes from. Which one goes on your opening is decided
against the approved size and pressure schedules, not by preference.
Second storeys, and the thing about power
A lot of Estero housing is two-storey coach homes and villas, and the openings that most need
protecting are frequently the ones you cannot safely reach. That is the strongest argument for
motorizing: a shutter you have to fetch a ladder for is a shutter that does not get closed when it
matters.
Every motorized system we install has a manual override. If the power is already out when you go
to close up, you crank it down by hand. Motors are a convenience, not the thing the protection
depends on — the one thing you can count on in a hurricane is losing power.
Permitting in the Village of Estero
Estero runs its own building department, so this is a Village submittal, not a Lee County one.
Permitting is handled as part of the job. If you are building or renovating, specify the shutters
during design: the backing and the electrical run cost almost nothing while the wall is open and a
great deal afterwards.
