The opening this city keeps producing
Cape Coral is mostly single storey, which means the argument you hear elsewhere for motorizing
— that you cannot safely reach the opening — barely applies here. You can reach almost
everything on a Cape Coral house.
What Cape Coral has instead is width. The canal side of the house is a wall of
glass: a slider to the lanai, often a second one off the master, and frequently a picture window
between them. Those are the openings people underestimate, because a wide opening needs either a
post in the middle of it or a product engineered to span it.

bigger slat is not the stronger one — the double wall on the 55mm is where the load capacity
comes from. Which profile goes on your opening comes off the approved size and pressure schedule,
not off preference.
Because we manufacture here, a service call in year nine is a drive rather than a freight order.

Closing the house up
The other reason roll downs sell well here has nothing to do with hurricanes. A closed roll down
shutter is a solid aluminum wall over the opening. People who travel, people with a second home, and
anyone leaving a canal-front house empty for a month use them to shut the place up properly —
dark, quiet, and not worth anyone’s attention from the water.
Every motorized system has a manual override. If the power is out when you go to close up, you
crank it down by hand.
Cape Coral runs its own building department
This catches people out constantly: a Cape Coral permit is not a Lee County permit, even though
the mailing address is Lee County. The city has its own building department, its own submittal and
its own review times. This is our home jurisdiction and permitting is handled as part of the job.

Questions we get asked
Do I need motorized if my house is single storey?
Often not, and we will say so. Cape Coral houses are mostly reachable, so the case for a motor here is about width and convenience rather than access. On a twelve-foot slider it earns its keep; on a bedroom window it usually does not.
Can a roll down cover my lanai opening?
It can close it, but it will also close off the view and the airflow, and a wide lanai may need more than one unit. If you want the lanai covered and still open, that is a roll down screen. Plenty of Cape Coral houses end up with a screen on the lanai and roll downs on the sliders behind it.
Is a Cape Coral permit a Lee County permit?
