Accordion Shutters on Fort Myers Beach, FL
On a barrier island with a lot of rental property and a lot of absent owners, the
protection that works is the protection that closes without a project attached to it.
Nothing to store on an island with no storage
Space on Estero Island is expensive and always has been. Houses here rarely have a spare garage
bay, and the elevated rebuilds have less enclosed ground-level space than the houses they replaced,
because the code now limits what can go under them.
That rules out a lot. A full set of storm panels for a house is a serious volume of steel that
has to live somewhere dry all year. Accordion shutters live
beside the opening they protect and take up no floor space at all.
Somebody else can close them
A great deal of property here is rented, managed, or owned by people who are elsewhere for most
of the year. Accordions are the cheapest product a third party can operate: no instructions, no
lifting, no ladder. A manager or a neighbour can close an entire house in about ten minutes.
They also lock from the inside, which on a property that will be empty and hard to reach is
worth having.
Built to fit what is going up now
We manufacture accordions in our shop in Cape Coral, cut to your dimensions. The island is a
mixture of surviving older stock and brand-new elevated construction with large glass, and very
little of it shares an opening size. FL1850, approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone.
Salt, honestly
They live outside year-round, a few hundred yards from the Gulf. Rinse the tracks with fresh
water a few times a year and keep the sand out of them — that is the entire maintenance
routine and it is the difference between a system that lasts and one that binds. We service what we
install and other companies’ work as well.
Permitting through the Town of Fort Myers Beach
The Town runs its own building department, and post-Ian it is dealing with an extraordinary volume of work — which means submittals get looked at properly and timelines are what they are. We specify to the current requirements rather than to what used to pass. Permitting is handled as part of the job.

Questions we get asked
Can my property manager close them?
Easily, and that is one of the main reasons we specify them on rental property here. Nothing to carry, no ladder, no instructions needed – a whole house in about ten minutes.
Where do I store them?
You do not. They are permanently mounted beside the opening, which on an island where storage space is scarce and ground-level enclosure is restricted matters more than people expect.
How much maintenance?
Rinse the tracks with fresh water a few times a year and clear out the sand. That is it, and it is what keeps them working this close to the Gulf.
