Accordion Shutters in Estero, FL
The most protected openings per dollar of anything we sell — and the product

Why accordions are usually the right first move in Estero
Estero housing skews newer than most of Lee County. A lot of it went up between the mid-1990s
and the last few years, which means rated windows are common and the openings that are genuinely
exposed are fewer. What that changes is the arithmetic: instead of protecting an entire house you
are usually protecting a specific list — the lanai sliders, the openings added after the
original build, the west elevation.
On a list like that, accordion shutters win on cost per
opening by a wide margin. They live permanently beside the opening, they close by hand in a couple
of minutes with no ladder and nothing to carry, and they lock from the inside. For a coach home or
a villa with a lot of similar windows, nothing else protects that many openings for the money.
We build them in our own shop in Cape Coral, which matters more than it sounds. Estero has a
lot of arched, angled and non-standard openings from the era it was built in, and a shutter made
to your dimensions fits an opening that a stock size does not.
The architectural review conversation
This is the part people skip and then regret. Accordions stack against the wall beside the
opening and stay there year-round. That is the trade — the thing that makes them fast to
close is the same thing that makes them visible in February.
Estero communities vary enormously in how much they care. Some have no opinion at all. Others
will approve a colour but not a location, or approve the rear elevation and refuse the front. The
practical answer is usually a mix rather than an argument:

Permitting in the Village of Estero
Estero incorporated in 2014 and runs its own building department, so this is not a Lee County
permit even though you have a Lee County address. It is its own submittal, with its own review
times. Permitting is handled as part of the job.

Will my HOA in Estero approve accordion shutters?
Often on the rear and sides, less often on the front elevation, and it varies a great deal between communities. Bring us your architectural guidelines before anything is ordered and we will specify to them — usually accordions where they are not seen and a different product where they are.
How long do accordions take to close?
A couple of minutes for a house, once you have done it once. They are already mounted, so there is nothing to carry, nothing to store and no ladder. That matters more than it sounds when a storm turns and you have a day rather than a week.
Do you make them yourselves?
Yes. We manufacture our accordion shutters in our shop in Cape Coral, which is why odd-shaped and non-standard Estero openings are not a problem. They are approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone under Florida Product Approval FL1850.
