Accordion Shutters in Bonita Springs, FL

If the budget has to cover the whole house rather than one elevation, this is
almost always the answer — and in a town this seasonal, it has a second advantage people
overlook.

The one somebody else can close

Bonita empties out for the summer. The house sits from May to October with nobody in it, which is
exactly the window a hurricane arrives in. Whatever protection you buy has to work under that
constraint or it does not really work at all.

Accordion shutters are the cheapest product that survives it.
They are already mounted beside every opening. There is nothing to fetch, carry, lift or store. A
neighbour, a property manager or a family member can go round a house and close the whole thing in
about ten minutes, and they can do it without a ladder and without your instructions.

Storm panels cannot do that in any practical sense. Ask anyone who has tried to talk a neighbour
through mounting a set of steel panels over the phone.

Cost per opening, honestly

Nothing we sell protects more openings for the money. On a house with a lot of similar windows
— and most of Bonita’s older stock qualifies — accordions cover the whole list for what
a couple of impact windows would cost.

We build them ourselves in our shop in Cape Coral, which is what makes the odd openings work.
Bonita has a lot of them: 1970s and 80s beach cottages with non-standard sizes, and newer builds
with arches and angles.

They are approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone under Florida Product Approval FL1850,
which is a tougher standard than Lee County requires. That is not us being clever — it just
means the product is not marginal for your address.

The trade, stated plainly

Accordions stack against the wall beside the opening and stay there all year. That is what makes
them fast to close and it is also what makes them visible in February. In the gated communities east
of I-75 that is worth checking before you order, and the usual answer is a mix: accordions on the
rear and sides, Bahamas or
roll downs where the street can see. Bring us your
community documents and we will specify inside them.

Salt is the other honest note. Anything on the outside of a Gulf-side house is in salt air
year-round. Rinse the tracks with fresh water a few times a year and clear the sand out, and they
last; ignore them for five seasons and you will be paying us to service what you could have
prevented.

Permitting in Bonita Springs

A City of Bonita Springs submittal, not an unincorporated Lee County one. Permitting is handled
as part of the job.

Tell us what you are looking at and someone from our team will call you the same business day. We go through it on the phone first — your openings, the products that actually fit, what is involved — and if it is a fit we come out and put a written quote in your hand. No charge and no obligation.

Questions we get asked

Can someone close them for me while I am up north?

That is one of their best features. They are permanently mounted, so there is nothing to carry or lift — a neighbour or property manager can close a whole house in about ten minutes with no ladder and no instructions from you.

How do they hold up to salt this close to the Gulf?

They live outside year-round, so they need rinsing. Fresh water on the tracks a few times a year and the sand cleared out is the whole maintenance routine, and it is the difference between a system that lasts and one that binds.

Do you make them yourselves?

Yes, in our shop in Cape Coral, which is why non-standard Bonita openings are not a problem. They carry Florida Product Approval FL1850 and are approved for the High Velocity Hurricane Zone.
