The Ian window
The strongest case for impact glass in this city right now is simply that a great many Cape Coral
houses are having windows replaced anyway.
If the units are original, fogged, failed, or came out during the rebuild, the labour is already
being spent. Doing it once with impact units is the efficient version of that project, and the
retrofit premium mostly disappears. If you are not replacing windows, the arithmetic is
completely different and usually points somewhere else first.
How to check what you already got
An unusual amount of glass changed hands in this city between 2022 and now, some of it in a
hurry, and not all of it by people who are still in business. If windows went into your house during
the rebuild and you are not certain what they are, this is worth twenty minutes.
- Find the label. Impact units carry a permanent etched or applied mark in a
corner of the glass. If there is nothing there at all, that is your answer. - Pull the permit. Cape Coral’s permit records are public. If there is no window
permit against your address for that work, the install was never inspected and no approval was ever
verified against it. - Match the approval to your openings. The approval number should cover the
configuration and the size that actually went in. This is the step that gets skipped.
We do this for people regularly and we will tell you if what you have is fine, because quite
often it is. If it is not, you at least find out in June rather than during a warning.
The honest case against
Impact glass cannot cover the opening that matters most on a canal home. The lanai is not a
window, and it is the largest exposed face on the building. If the budget is finite, the
lanai comes first and the windows second. We have lost
jobs saying that.

Permitted through the City of Cape Coral
Not Lee County — the city runs its own building department. The inspector verifies the
approval against what was actually installed, which is the step that makes the paperwork worth
something and the step an unpermitted install skips. This is our home jurisdiction and permitting is
handled as part of the job.
