We specialize in round column installs, custom miter hoods, in-soffit installs, and mullion and post jobs. We are known for our expertise to tackle the hardest jobs.

Why This Company Exists

Hurricane Ian took this community apart. Florida Screen & Shutter opened in November 2022, in the weeks that followed.

Michael Gaume didn't start out as an owner. He started out as an installer. But the product he was putting on people's homes wasn't the product he'd have put on his own. Screens that hung baggy. Screens that went on crooked. And every other weekend, a full day of service calls tearing out work that never should have gone up in the first place.

After Ian, that stopped being tolerable. He left to build a company that installs what he'd put on his own house, and nothing else.

Manufacturing is in the family. Michael’s father owned Four Seasons Housing, a manufactured-home plant in Indiana.

Michael never worked there. He went and built trailers for a recreational vehicle manufacturer instead — somebody else’s line, somebody else’s company, somebody else’s name on the building. That is where he learned what a production floor is supposed to look like, and it is a large part of why we manufacture our own accordions and rolling shutters instead of reselling out of a catalogue.

Hurricane protection is not in the family at all. Nobody handed him a customer list, a shop, or a name that already meant something in this trade. There is a fair amount of that down here. Inheriting a business is nobody’s crime — but it is not the same as starting one with a truck, a phone and a hurricane, and the two do not produce the same company.

Charlie is Michael’s cousin. He sold trailers for Michael’s father years ago, and the two of them go back about as far as two people can.

They fell out of touch for a few years, the way people do when life gets in the way. Then Michael heard Charlie was living down in Florida and needed a hand getting his windows covered before Hurricane Milton came through. He drove over and boarded them up himself.

Afterwards Charlie asked what he owed him. Michael told him he did not want money — he wanted Charlie to come and sell for him, because he had never seen anybody better at it.

So Charlie is usually the first person you will speak to here. He goes through your openings on the phone before anybody drives out.

That's still how product gets picked here. MagnaTrack Defender is on this site because he has spent years installing it and knows exactly what it does. Ultra Shield is here because it earns its place on the openings it suits. Nautilus is here for the same reason on the shutter side. And our 55mm and 63mm rolling shutters are here because we build them ourselves.

If a product doesn't earn its place on that list, we don't sell it.

Michael is still on job sites. He still reviews every warranty claim himself.

If you want to work here, we are usually hiring — see what we hire for.

FAQ's

Do you work with builders and construction companies?
Yes. In addition to working directly with homeowners, we also partner with builders, contractors, and developers. We provide dependable screen and shutter solutions that make it easier for builders to deliver added safety, function, and value to their projects.
Why should builders choose Florida Screen & Shutter as a partner?
Many projects are built to only meet basic requirements, which may not provide the strongest long-term protection. By working with us, builders can go beyond the minimum and offer clients durable, reliable solutions that add real value.
How do you work with a builder’s team during construction?
We coordinate directly with project managers and trades to ensure our systems are integrated seamlessly.
Can your products be customized for different builds?
Yes. Every project is unique, and our screens and shutters can be customized to fit a wide range of needs.
What sets your products apart from standard hurricane shutters?
Unlike many off-the-shelf options, our systems use advanced engineering like the patented MagnaTrack system, which resists jamming, slippage, and pull-out even under extreme wind pressure. This means fewer callbacks, lower maintenance, and long-term reliability for the builder and homeowner alike.
